There are facts about sexual addiction and Bdsm Counseling that everyone should know. Sexual addiction is not new. Even the oldest of civilizations had pornography or engage in cult activity. The difference between sexual addiction and 'normal sexual behavior' is when the person uses sex to fill some void inside, even to the point where their actions cause severe consequences.

There are basically three aspects of sexual addiction. When the sex is shameful,secretive or abusive it is seen as addiction. This may include Bondage and Sadomasochism. Examples of sexual addictions are compulsive masturbation, viewing of pornography and having extramarital affairs.
Most people who suffer from sexual addictions have problems opening up about it. They are usually very secretive and try to justify their actions to themselves. They sometimes lose touch with reality and some even commit suicide. Most sexual addicts live in a state of denial and often do not seek support of their own will until drastic event have taken place, such as the discovery of an affair.
  1. The first step recovery is admitting you have a problem. At this time, it is very important for the person with the addiction to seek help. Because sexual addiction is a progressive illness; it is important that the person come to terms with the problem as soon as possible.
  2. Spend more time in healthy sexual relationships and less time in perversion. Treatment for this illness does not require complete abstinence. It requires that the person only engage in sexual activity when it is non-compulsive and self-affirming.
  3. It is important to join a ongoing treatment program. This  involves enrolling in a one to three month program that allows you to continue sexual practices, such as masturbation, to prove they can overcome the urge for sex. During the time spent in the program, patients are introduced to healthy sexuality with support from their partners. This is very important to change the views of the addict. Most addicts were abused as children or had families with twisted views of sex. This mind set has to be changed. Also during the sessions, patients are encouraged to open up about the emotional pain that they are experiencing.
  4. A 12 step program may be necessary to provide all the help that is needed. Most treatments use the 12 step program as with Alcoholics Anonymous. This program offers a forum from group support. Here individuals with the same or similar conditions can share things helping each other to open up better to family.
 
Basically sexual addiction cannot be cured and it is advised that persons suffering from the problem stay away from others or places that trigger the relapse.
The best treatment for sexual addicts is continuing support from loved ones and the ability to confront emotional pain that has been avoided for so long.
