Fall Out Boy Albums

Fall Out Boy, the Grammy-nominated pop-punk quartet, released five studio albums until they decided to take a hiatus in 2009, but which Fall Out Boy album is the best? Fronted by vocalist Patrick Stump with primary lyrics provided by bassist Pete Wentz, the group is known for their catchy singles and unique song titles. As with any list ranking any band’s best albums, people are sure to disagree, but that’s what's so great about music.

  1. "From Under the Cork Tree" This was the third studio album released by the band and the first of their albums on a major label. This album is quintessential Fall Out Boy at the top of their game filled with pop-punk explosions, emo expressions and Wentz’s witty lyrics. “Cork Tree” brought the band mainstream success and charted as high as nine on the US Billboard 200. Highlight singles include "Sugar, We're Goin Down,” "Dance, Dance,” "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More ‘Touch Me’” and "I Slept With Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got was This Stupid Song Written About Me.”
  2. "Infinity on High" Following their mainstream success with “From Under the Cork Tree,” Fall Out Boy came back with this successor album, which is, in many ways, the equal of “Cork Tree.” This fourth studio album by the band reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and employed a more diverse array of musical styles but retained many catchy hooks and slickly written songs. The only reason this album is not on top is because it sounds more like a collection of singles, rather than a cohesive album. Highlight singles from the album include "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race” and "Thnks fr th Mmrs.”
  3. "Take This to Your Grave" The band’s second studio album ranks third on the list of best Fall Out Boy albums. “Take This to Your Grave” has everything most pop-punk bands are missing: clever lyrics, driving rhythms and musical talent in the form of distinctive lead vocals and songwriting. Packed with emo intensity, this album created the buzz that got the band their major label record deal. Notable singles include "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy” and "Saturday.”
  4. "Folie à Deux" Released just a year after “Infinity on High,” Fall Out Boy continued their successful run with this album as it charted as high as number eight on the US Billboard 200 charts. The group collaborated with famous artists like Elvis Costello, Lil Wayne and Debbie Harry from Blondie, a trend that continued from their previous album. “Folie” continued a move away from the raw sounds of earlier albums to a more overproduced and corporate sound. Fans of the band no doubt like the album, but perhaps the hiatus in 2009 is a good thing as it might give the band proper time to rethink where they want to go musically. The album yielded one successful single, “I Don’t Care.”
  5. “Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend” This was the debut mini-LP from Fall Out Boy released in 2003. Unlike their later albums where Pete Wentz wrote the majority of the lyrics, lead singer Patrick Stump penned the songs on this LP. You can hear the development of the emo-punk sound that would become their signature sound. No singles were released, but “Calm Before the Storm” and “Pretty in Punk” are highly recommended listens.
