Fat Tuesday foods are very delicious. Often, the best Fat Tuesday foods are traditional Cajun dishes that originated around New Orleans, where the biggest celebration is held, but there are also other meals that are great for the day. Following are some of the most popular Fat Tuesday foods and descriptions of these delicious dishes.

  1. Jambalaya. Jambalaya is a meal that contains rice, vegetables, and meat. Often, rice is stewed with tomatoes, onions, celery, carrots, pepper, and other veggies, and meat like chicken or sausage, or shrimp or crawfish is added in. This results in a big, hearty pot of Fat Tuesday food.
  2. Crawfish Etoufee. This Cajun dish uses crawfish, rice, and a number of other tasty ingredients, like onion, pepper and tomato. It is pretty easy to prepare at home, and it is a favorite at any classic New Orleans restaurant.
  3. Creole Gumbo. This is another classic Fat Tuesday food. Gumbo is a delicious soup, and when prepared to match the occasion, Gulf Coast seafood, like crawfish, shrimp, and crab can be used to make it absolutely delectable. Vegetables may also be added in, and a tasty Creole roux (cream sauce) can be a great base for the soup.
  4. Turkey. Fat Tuesday, also called Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday, commonly has those who embrace it dining on turkey. Roasted or deep fried (Cajun style) turkey make for the best dinner meals, and a full bird can accommodate many diners.
  5. Slow Cooked Pork. Pork, covered in chutney and then slowly cooked is a great Mardi Gras meal. This is great when cooked over the fire, and seasoned with plenty of spices.

The above Fat Tuesday foods are all mouth watering and classic. For anyone trying to make the perfect Mardi Gras meal, be sure to consider any of these dishes, as no diner of yours who eats any of these dishes can possibly be disappointed by your efforts in the kitchen.
