Feel Good Drag Lyrics
Anberlin's "Feel Good Drag" lyrics are interesting upon examination. “Feel Good Drag” was the hit single on Anberlin’s 2009 album “New Surrender.” Although the song was originally released on the band's breakthrough album “Never Take Friendship Personal” in 2005, it wasn’t until a re-recorded version was released in 2009 that the song found its way to the top of the charts. After a 29-week climb, “Feel Good Drag” hit number one on billboard’s alternative chart, finding mass appeal and capturing the attention of thousands of new fans.
On the surface, the lyrics of “Feel Good Drag” seemingly tell the story of a relationship that has fallen apart. The listener hears the story through the writer’s perspective and he says, “Was this over before, before it ever began.” This first line of the chorus allows the listener to peek into the mind of the writer and discover the reservations he may have had before ever entering the relationship. Entering a relationship knowing it is destined to fail is the whole underlying theme of the song. “Feel Good Drag” is about doing something that you know is wrong but going ahead with it because you are either too naïve or too selfish. This is a choice the storyteller has made.
Choice is a reappearing theme in “Feel Good Drag.” The writer recognizes the fact that he has the ability to make a choice and when the wrong choice is made he only can look to himself as being to blame. With lines like “Everyone in this town is seeing somebody else,” the reader is led to believe that when entering the relationship, the writer of “Feel Good Drag” knew the other half was already involved with someone else. Rather than respect this, the writer makes the choice to enter into the relationship and hence knows he is destined to be hurt. Therefore, he can only say he made the choice to fall to the allure of seduction and sin and is not an innocent victim.
