If you are interested in field hockey, then you need to know field hockey rules and regulations. These rules and regulations are the ones that everybody interested in playing field hockey has to know to be able to not only successfully play the game, but to not look like a fool out on the field hockey field!

You can only use the stick to handle the field hockey ball. This field hockey rule probably seems like a no brainer to experience players, but to some beginners who have grown up on football or soccer, you can’t use your hands or feet to handle the ball! The stick is the only thing that a player can use according to the rules and regulations of field hockey that can be used to handle the ball.

There are only sixteen players allowed on each team during a field hockey game. This rule is to prevent there from being too many players at one time on the field hockey field. There are eleven players on the field at any time and no more than five substitutes on the sidelines for each team during the game.

You cannot hit the ball in the air. This rule is to prevent any players from getting hit with the ball during play of the field hockey game. This shouldn’t be something that you have to worry about during most games, but don’t try any trick shots that involve getting the field hockey ball up in the air and getting some more distance with the ball, because you will be called on it due to this field hockey rule.

A regulation field hockey game lasts 70 minutes. This 70 minutes is broken up into two halves of 35 minutes apiece. Usually there is a break between each half for the field hockey players to recoup.
