Finding free music downloads legally can bear serious consequences because the RIAA give warnings about downloading songs without a fee. It is very difficult to find free songs without the risk of getting caught because only a handful of websites offers free music legally. Here is a list of legitimate websites to get free music online without worrying if it's illegal.

  1. Amazon Amazon members mostly have to pay money to download music off the site, but they have a category where anyone is able to obtain free music to download legally. Although most of the music is from independent artists, a handful of free music downloads is from popular singers/bands.
  2. Spinner Spinner is a website about popular music and is associated with the internet service AOL. Its site posts free music to download daily from mainstream to underground singers. On the left side of the website where it says "Exclusive," click on "MP3 of the Day" to find free music.
  3. Internet Archive If you are a lover of old music dating back to the early 20th century, Internet Archive provides hundreds of classic music from early ragtime to jazz and best of all, it's for free. In addition to downloading free music, you can read and write reviews of a specific song.
  4. MP3 One of the most popular free music sites on the web, MP3 provides a mixture of independent and popular music to download. On the front page of their site, they offer free music of the day from mainstream artists and independent artists to download.
