There are many reasons why someone might want to learn French drains how they work. This is because they can provide the right amount of drainage without being overly expensive or complicated. Not only can you learn more about what they can be used for, but you can also get an idea of what they are used for when it comes to the drainage system. Whether you need them installed by your home or by your business, learning about French drains how they work.
French drains are built in the ground and are used to clear up drainage complication problems for the area. This could be because there is a lot of water in the area, there is a lack of sunlight so there is no evaporation, or the ground does not drain well in general. When the French drain is placed in the ground, the water is then disbursed along different paths, and pulls the water away from the areas that it is complicating. A trench is usually dug up in the area that the problem is occurring in. The slope of the trench then pulls the water away and into another location. The trench can be filled with sand or gravel so that water drains slower than if it was full of dirt. A pipe is then placed in the trench using sand or gravel above and below it. Any excess water in the trench then is placed in the pipe. There are holes in the top of the pipe that allows this water to enter.
Once the water reaches this pipe, it is then transported down a slope and out of holes that are in the bottom of the pipe and sent down to the sand or gravel below. The excess water from the pipe is then sent to the end of the pipe and runs into a pond or drains in the system. If an enormous amount of water is the issue in that specific area, then a drainage pipe is usually placed up towards the surface that can quickly pull the water away and down into the French drain. A filter is usually placed on the surface drain so that the pipe is not lodged with debris from the oncoming water. The rest of the drainage system works as others would in a normal system. Tiles or other hard materials may also be placed around the piping in the system underground to keep out debris, dirt, and other objects and to prevent it from being blocked and backed up.
