French Open 2007 Highlights
There were many French Open 2007 highlights that tennis fans around the world had a chance to enjoy. The French Open is played on a clay surface and is always held in Paris, France. It is one of the four major tennis tournaments that make up what is called the Grand Slam. The other three tournaments are Wimbledon, which is held in England, and the U.S. and Australian Opens. Here are some French Open 2007 highlights to recap the tournament.
- Rafael Nadal won his third consecutive men’s French Open title. In one of the main French Open 2007 highlights, Nadal cruised through the tournament and defeated Roger Federer in the finals in four sets. This was the second year in a row the two men had faced each other in the French Open finals. Federer had defeated Nadal in the finals at Wimbledon the year before, so Nadal got some revenge against his rival by winning the French.
- Another of the French Open 2007 highlights was Justine Henin winning the women’s title. Henin defeated Ana Ivanovic to win her third French Open title in a row. Henin not only won, she did even not lose a single set during the tournament, an indication of how truly dominant she was on the clay surface of the French open.
- Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor won the Men’s Doubles title. The two men defeated Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner in one of the French Open 2007 highlights of the tournament. Knowles and Nestor actually lost the first set of the match, but turned things around and won the next two sets to earn the title.
- Alicia Molik and Mara Santangelo had their own French Open 2007 highlight. The two won the Women’s Doubles title by beating Katarina Srebotnik and Ai Sugiyama in straight sets. The first set went to a tiebreaker but Molik and Santangelo pulled the set out by winning the breaker.
- In Mixed Doubles, Nathalie Dechy and Andy Ram won the title. Srebotnik made another appearance in a finals at the 2007 French Open with her partner Nenad Zimonjic, but she once again came away empty-handed. Dechy and Ram easily won the mixed title in straight sets.
