The George W. Bush biography is the timeline of the luminous and triumphant 43rd President of the United States of America. George W. Bush was born into a family that celebrates three generations of public service to America, including his father George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States.
George W. Bush was born July 6, 1946 in New Haven, Connecticut, to parents George and Barbara Bush, and raised in Midland, Texas. Following in his father’s footsteps, George graduated from Yale University in 1968. He first served his country as a F102 fighter pilot in the Texas Air National Guard. In 1975, Bush completed his education by earning a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He returned to Midland, Texas to begin a career in the energy business.
Bush courted and married Laura Welch, a librarian, in 1977. The marriage produced twin daughters Barbara and Jenna, born in 1981. Laura was instrumental in her husband’s campaign for Congress in 1978, which was unsuccessful.
Sharing the family’s passion for politics, he worked diligently on his father’s success run for President in 1988. In 1994, George W. Bush was elected the 46th Governor of Texas and served two terms in office. Laura became First Lady of Texas and successfully promoted health, education and literacy agendas. George W. Bush governed on a platform of limited government, conservative values, local control, and supporting a strong family unit with personal responsibility.
After a successful campaign, George W. Bush was sworn in as the 43rd President of the United States in 2001 with Laura Bush, the First Lady, at his side. As President, he faced dire events that no other President, since Lincoln, every dreamt of facing. On September 11, 2001, American was attacked when Muslim radicals hijacked airliners and flew them into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon. Bush called for a global “War on Terror” and in doing so kept the country safe from more homeland attacks. The second catastrophic event came in August 2005 when hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, Louisiana causing massive damage and flooding when the antiquated levee system, which had been ignored by every previous administration, failed.
George W. Bush served two terms as President before returning to private life. He and Laura bought a home in Dallas, Texas where he wrote a successful book entitled “Decision Points”. Bush serves as the honorary chairman of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation. Regardless of political affiliation, Americans can take pride in his Presidential accomplishments and the distinction and stateliness which he displayed in the White House.
