Learning how to get rid of razor bumps will allow you to have smoother looking, healthier skin, and perhaps stave off an infection. There are effective things you can do at home to get rid of razor bumps. These methods are cost effective and don't require any special treatments. By following these steps, you will not only be able to get rid of razor bumps, but perhaps prevent them from occurring in the first place. Most men are familiar with these unattractive clusters of bumps which sometimes resemble pimple-like blemishes.

To get rid of razor bumps, you will need:

  • Moisturizing shave cream
  • Witch hazel
  • Cotton balls
  • Mild facial cleanser
  • Washcloth
  1. Shave only every two to three days, if possible. This will help you get rid of razor bumps because your skin will begin to recover from the harshness of your razor. If necessary, shave with an electric razor in between shavings with your razor.
  2. Soften your stubble with warm water before shaving. Run warm water onto your washcloth and apply it to your face. Never apply very hot water to your face in an attempt to get rid of razor bumps, as this might worsen your complexion by causing a scald and exacerbating razor bumps.
  3. Wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser. A hypoallergenic cleanser will prevent skin sensitivity and help get rid of existing razor bumps by not aggravating them with harsh chemicals. This allows your razor bumps to heal gently and without irritation.
  4. While your face is still warm and moist, apply your shaving cream. Allow the moisturizing shaving cream to penetrate your skin for a minute or two in order to further soften your stubble and skin.
  5. Do not shave against the growth of your facial hair. This can cause ingrown hairs and make it more difficult to get rid of razor bumps and might even promote new ones.
  6. Rinse your face thoroughly with clear, warm water to remove all remnants of shave cream.
  7. Gently apply your Witch Hazel solution to your face with cotton balls. This will alleviate bacteria, close your pores and help prevent infection, while helping to get rid of razor bumps.
