In addition, be prepared to spend at least 24 hours practicing the skills necessary to obtain this certification.
- Choose an organization through which you would like to become scuba diver solo certified. There are a number of organizations that exist which offer this certification, all with their own requirements. Do some research on all potential organizations before committing to one.
- Complete the "book" obligations for the certification. In most cases, you will be required to study for and pass a written test before attempting any actual scuba diving. Typically, the fee for this test is around $100.00
- Get trained in a pool. Once you have passed the test, you are usually required to receive some initial training in a pool. Typically, this training period lasts for around 4 hours, and can be done over the course of several days.
- Scuba dive in the ocean. In order to complete your certification, you must perform the exercises learned in the pool in open water. Unlike the pool training, which usually only takes 20 hours, this part of the certification can take 20 hours or more. Be prepared to spend a least a few weeks completing these requirements.
