- Push ups. Push ups are one of the best exercises for those who are interested in resistance training exercises for the upper back. Those who aren't strong enough to perform traditional push ups can start with their knees on the ground. Even more dehabilitated individuals can start with wall push ups, and gradually work their way up to the more traditional version of the exercise.
- Pull ups. Pull ups are another great exercise that can target the muscles of the upper back. Those who cannot perform traditional pull ups should consider using an assisted pull up machine. Typically, these machines can be only found at commercial gyms. Be sure to follow instructions on the assisted pull up machine carefully for best results.
- Supermans. Supermans are easy exercises, but are also highly effective. To perform a superman, lay on your stomach with your arms extended in front of your body. Take a deep breath, and as you exhale, use the muscles in your back to lift your arms a few inches off the ground. Hold the pose for as long as possible, rest, and repeat.
