Gothic Clothes For Men

When it comes to gothic clothes for men, there are many styles. Some are considered essentials, while others can merely add to a specific look. The key in deciding what to keep in your closet is to first know what type of gothic look you’re going for. Is it romantic? Punk? Futuristic? Much like any other branch of fashion, the gothic style does not contain one singular look. If you’re uncertain of what style you prefer, do yourself a favor first and browse through gothic-inspired magazines and films.

  1. Boots. While there are numerous subgenres of gothic fashion, boots tend to work with every look. We’re talking big and black. Of course, boots come in a seemingly endless variety of styles, but it never hurts to have several different pairs. Dressy boots work well with romantic gothic styles, while platform and industrial boots can be more versatile.
  2. Tailored Jackets. Many gothic styles use velvet tailored jackets to create a softer, more romantic look. Of course, leather is also a popular choice in the gothic world. As we’ve mentioned before, it all depends on which style suits you best. Romantic types should also consider investing in a few old-fashioned pieces like suits and vests.
  3. Goggles. You’ll need a pair of goggles if you’re going for the cyberpunk look. These are typically worn decoratively on the forehead. Some good reference points for this style are modern science fiction movies like “Hackers” and “The Matrix.” This futuristic style consists mainly of electronic and industrial elements like spikes, latex and leather.
  4. Black long-sleeved tees and sweaters. The snugger the shirt the better: tight clothing is a signature gothic look (despite what those hipster guys dressed in women’s jeans might think). Color can work, too, just be sure to stick with dark and rich tones like deep red and royal purple.
  5. Bondage. Weather it’s metal clasps winding around your well-tailored jack or thick straps dangling from your pants, bondage clothing is a must. The romantic look tends to take it easy here, although, you will find many ladies donning a softer version of the stuff by way of corsets and thigh-high laced boots.
  6. Makeup. Okay, so it’s not for everybody, but if you’re going to extremes, you’ll need to paint your face accordingly. Some choose to use a white foundation to make the flesh appear paler, while others simply stick with a basic black eye liner to make the whites of their eyes pop.
