Greco Roman Wrestling Methods

There’s more to Greco-Roman wrestling methods than just grappling and toppling your opponents down to the ground. In fact, Greco-Roman wrestling has a set of rules which are just slightly different from freestyle wrestling (the one commonly shown as WWE). For starters, Greco-Roman wrestling strictly enforces the “no hitting below the belt” rule and you cannot grab opponents by the legs to bring them down. The Greco-Roman wrestling methods described herein are not hard-and-fast techniques, which could be modified according to your preference and convenience. What’s important here is to learn the basic Greco-Roman wrestling moves.

  1. Defensive Greco-Roman wrestling method. Because of man’s survival instinct, the first thing that comes to mind is defense. If this move is done right, it can be effective for making your opponent go down on his knees. Basics of this technique involves getting ahold of your opponent’s arm as he charges toward you and twisting it as far back to get him to submit.
  2. Parterre Offense wrestling move. The Parterre offense wrestling method works best when both you and your opponent are already on the ground. As he bends over you, you can push him back with one hand, reach under him and take him down with you on the mat. Like all Greco-Roman wrestling move, you can do variations of this one to suit you.
  3. Two-on-One Greco-Roman move. The basics of this Greco-Roman wrestling move is to grab your opponent’s wrist or elbow and push him back. Again, this move can be modified to be more effective; you can pull down your opponent after or execute a throw for a more painful finale.
  4. Headlock. As Greco-Roman wrestling absolutely prohibits grappling the legs to take the opponent down, you could always resort to a headlock. To execute a perfect headlock, you must also execute it a back step. Doing so would enable you to grab hold around his head and turn him over your shoulder.
  5. High Dive wrestling method. This Greco-Roman wrestling method grants you ultimate control of your opponent.  Grasp the upper arms of your adversary and gain control by holding him steadfastly on his wrist. Granted that you have mastered the basics, you can choose between bringing him down to the ground or lifting him up.
