Here is a guide to online dating. Online dating is often stigmatized, but has overwhelmingly become one of the most popular forms of dating. Meeting that significant other has always been a top priority for many. Television, music, books and movies place great emphasis on the romantic relationship. It is therefore no surprise that you will go beyond conventional or traditional means to achieve this love and companionship.  Statistics show that one out of five Americans participate in dating. It allows individuals who normally would have never met the opportunity to do so.  Knowing some useful tips on online dating experience is a success or a disaster.

  1. Choose a site that meets your personal needs and desires. Do you prefer a general service, or do you prefer an online dating site that focuses on ethnic or lifestyle preferences. You also have the option of choosing a site that requires a monthly payment or a 100% free site. Research the sites that meet your interest until you find the one that meets all your dating needs.
  2. Create a personal profile. Once you have chosen your online dating site, you then must create a profile that sums up who you are. This information includes your age, weight, height and some basic likes and dislikes. It is always recommended that you are truthful when creating your profile. This increases your chance of having successful matches and future relationships. Photos are optional, but choosing to post a photo increases your chances of attracting matches. Once you have completed creating your profile you can begin to search or view profiles of others.
  3. Write a great intro email. It is recommended that you take the time needed to respond to an email from a interested party. First impressions are everything. Show your interest in the individual in a way that is humorous and intriguing. You must be interesting.
  4. Use caution when choosing to proceed beyond email. It is wise to talk on the phone with a match before meeting them in person. You don't want to appear too hasty. Talking on the phone allows you to put a voice to the photo and words of your newfound interest.
  5. Meet face to face. If you find that after talking on the phone you would like to meet your match, use precaution. Always meet in a public place. Although public, chose a spot that is not too noisy. You want to be able to hear your date.
  6. Personal information. Never give out too much information before you have met in person and feel comfortable enough to do. Do not give out your address, work phone number or credit card info without necessary precautions.
  7. Beware of online dating scammers. Pay close attention to all information that is received to ensure that you are given correct information. There is nothing worse than putting your time and emotions into a person, only to find out they have been deceptive.
  8. Have fun! take advantage of your opportunity to meet individuals you would not normally have the pleasure of knowing. Online dating can be a pleasurable experience if you follow all the  helpful tips that allows the process to flow easier.
