Halo Reach Ending
The “Halo Reach” ending is one of legendary status and should satisfy most fans. It is a complex conclusion to the game with a lot going on. Before we go too much farther it is only fair to warn you that spoilers are to follow.
Given that “Halo Reach” is a narrative prequel to the previous “Halo” games, the player already has a general idea of how the game will end and fortunately the creators did a good job of ending this game where the others begin. First, let’s start from the beginning. The game takes place in the year 2552, a time in which humans are at war with an alien covenant on the human colony of “Reach”. Happening a few weeks prior to the events of “Halo: Combat Evolved”, gamers play as Noble 6. This character is a member of an elite squad of super soldiers who are sent into the battle for control of the world “Reach”. The main objective of the game is to hold off the brutal and overwhelming assault launched by the alien invaders.
As the game progresses, Noble 6 and his allies display a heroic, but seemingly hopeless effort to halt the alien invasion. In the end, as several of the remaining human forces retreat, Noble 6 makes the choice to stay and hold off the attack awhile longer, clearly a suicide mission. Next, the player sees the Pillar of Autumn spacecraft take off and Noble 6 turns to the stormy landscape below, gun in hand, prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice. The screen cuts to a view of the Pillar of Autumn spacecraft deep in space and we hear the general’s voice say, “Cortana all I need to know is did we lose them?” Cortana replies, “I think we both know the answer to that.”
What follows this heroic but emotional cut scene is a heartfelt message from Bungie to the fans explaining the entire creative team’s appreciation of the fans. Next, the player is allowed to return to gameplay as Noble 6 and fight his final battle. Quickly, you are overwhelmed and fall to the ground as the aliens finish you off. This is a sad conclusion to this game, but just the beginning of the complete “Halo” story.
