Heart Healthy Gift Basket

A heart healthy gift basket is something you can put together for very little money, yet it will be a gift that anyone would like to receive.  This article will cover what supplies you'll need to assemble a heart healthy gift basket, and basic directions on how to put it all together attractively.

Supplies needed for a heart healthy gift basket (food items can be altered according to personal preference):

  1. Empty container or basket
  2. Shredded basket fill
  3. Hot glue gun
  4. Florist styrofoam
  5. Low-fat snacks
  6. Low-sodium snacks
  7. Hard candy
  8. Assorted nuts
  9. Heart healthy book
  10. Colorful bow

How to make a heart healthy gift basket:

  • Select a container.  A gift basket container can be made out of anything.  A wicker basket, a heart-shaped box, or even a plastic pot.  Just remember that you're better off selecting something that is not too deep or it will be difficult to fill.
  • Glue-in the base.  Using a hot glue gun, secure the florist styrofoam to the bottom of the container.  You'll want it to cover as much of the bottom of the heart healthy gift basket as possible.  Press it in firmly and allow 1 - 2 minutes for the hot glue to affix itself to the bottom.
  • Insert the book.  The heart healthy book will likely be the tallest item in your heart healthy gift basket, therefore it should be placed at the back of the display.  Push it into the styrofoam and let it rest against the back of the container.
  • Arrange the snacks.  Place the snacks attractively in the basket.  You can add a little hot glue to the bottom of each item to hold it in place, if desired.  Just be careful to only apply the glue to any excess packaging, and not to the food itself.
  • Fill the basket.  Once all the items in your heart healthy gift basket are in place, fill in all the empty spaces with the shredded basket fill.  Sprinkle the fill with colorful hard candies.

When you're done, you'll have a very attractive heart healthy gift basket that's ready to give.  Simply attach a bow to the front or top of your gift, and it's ready!
