History Of The Greater Battle Creek Ice Hockey Association

Curious about the history of the Greater Battle Creek Ice Hockey Association? The Greater Battle Creek Ice Hockey Association does not have a very lengthy history because the Battle Creek Revolution professional ice hockey team did not begin playing until 2008. However, it has made great strides and continues to compete in the six-member All American Hockey League (AAHL). The Revolution is also a Minor League Affiliate of the International Hockey League's Muskegon Lumberjacks. With its home in The Rink Ice Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan, the Revolution attracts many loyal local fans to its games.

The All American Hockey League (AAHL), formed in 2008 as the All American Hockey Association (AAHA), went to the league format in April of 2009. The AAHL is a lower level professional ice hockey league. There are currently only six  teams in this league located in the Midwestern United States, which includes the Battle Creek Revolution. It is anticipated that new teams will be announced in the fiture.

The highest award in this league was known as the "Champions Cup" during the initial organization. Now it is the "Rod Davidson Cup" and is awarded annually to the playoff champion. For the 2009 to 2010 AAHL season, the Battle Creek Revolution's coach Bob Clouston was named Coach of the Year. The Revolution's Rob Schweyer was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

The International Hockey League (IHL) is another lower level professional ice hockey league. It consists of seven United States teams, with each team playing every other team. The original IHL was started in 1945, folded, came back under two different names, and then again became the International Hockey League  in 2007.
