The Lumberjack World Championships is an even that is not that well known to your average person but it does have an interesting history. The Lumberjack World Championships was started in 1960. It was started to help give some recognition to the history of the Untied States logging industry. The location where these events take place is Hayward, WI. The Lumberjack World Championships get both fans and people to compete from all over the planet.

The Lumberjack World Championships have a total of 21 different competitions that people can participate in and the grand prize for all of this is $50,000. Lumberjack sports themselves actually date all the way back to the 1880’s when the lumber industry was just starting to pick up. Smaller competitions for lumberjacking started years before the world championships, but The Lumberjack World Championships brought it attention from all around the world. The Lumberjack World Championships were started by a man named Tony Wise who wanted to get Hayward on the map.

Some of the activities that are part of the competition include logrolling, boom running and pole climbing. People who compete in the events that the Lumberjack World Championships have are amazing athletes with endurance, strength, agility and grace. This is truly an amazing event and it also shows how early lumberjacks completed their jobs in lieu of machinery and equipment.
