You want to keep all the best music on your device, so you are probably wondering how to add and remove songs on the iPod Touch.  What's the purpose in spending so much for something you can't even update with the top hits?  In order to add and remove songs to your iPod Touch, you need iTunes.  ITunes is a free application offered by Apple to add music, videos, and other great media.

Things You Will Need:

  • iTunes
  • USB Cable for Your iPod Touch
  1. The first option to add and remove songs on your iPod Touch is to sync your device with iTunes.  By default, iTunes is set to automatically add and remove songs on your iPod Touch when your device is synched.  Before attaching your iPod Touch's USB cable to your computer, add and remove the songs in iTunes you wish to have on your device. You can add songs that you have downloaded through iTunes or songs that are saved on your hard drive.  Songs can be deleted by right clicking on them and selecting delete.  After your playlist is just like you want it, plug in your iPod Touch with the USB cable to your computer and iTunes will update your list.
  2. Your second option for adding and removing songs on your iPod Touch is to manually manage your songs on your device and iTunes.  In the first option, you plugged in iPod Touch to your computer and iTunes updated your playlist automatically.  With this option, you will be able to plug in your device, and update your playlist manually.  With your iPod Touch connected to your computer, select your device in iTunes.  After selecting the device, click on Summary and change your settings to "Manually Music and Videos."  Once you have done this, simply add and remove songs to your device yourself by clicking on the song and dragging it to your device in the left panel.
