How To Answer Interview Questions

Knowing how to answer interview questions is essential to getting hired. Your interview is the best chance you have to show a possible employer why you are an asset to the team. Make sure you answer questions properly so that you come across looking professional and capable.

  1. Remember the setting .This is a formal business meeting for a job. Keep your answers career-focused. If the interviewer asks you to tell him about yourself, share professional information about career successes and your past positions. Don't share a lot of personal details about your wife, kids or dogs- there will be plenty of time for idle chit chat after you get the job.
  2. Keep all of your answers positive. If you are asked to talk about a weakness, spin the story into something good by sharing a weakness you had and how you overcame it. If you are asked why you left your last job, never trash the boss or make other negative comments. The interviewer will wonder if you are just difficult to get along with or if you will be trashing them in an interview a few years from now. Put a good spin on everything, and think of pleasant ways to answer any question.
  3. Take every opportunity you have to paint yourself in the best light. If you are asked about a skill, give specific examples of how you exhibit that skill. If you are asked to talk about your past jobs, stress everything you accomplished. An interview is no time to be modest; you need to make the interviewer see how great you are, and you have to do that by telling him all the reasons you are great.

Tip

Answering interview questions is easier if you know something about the company. Do your research before going to the interview to find out a little about the job and the corporate culture.
