Learning how to arrange living room furniture is not too difficult. It may seem so if you have been watching talented designers that are popular on television. However, you can be as simple as you like when arranging living room furniture. Take the following considerations into account to learn how to arrange living room furniture.

  1. Take into account your space and what you're using in it. Before you place objects in your living room, make sure you have enough room for everything. For instance, it might be wise to place your big screen television, if applicable, where you want it, as it may dictate other objects' place and take up a lot of space. Conversely, you may need to fill space in other scenarios.
  2. Arrange around focal objects. Focal objects include a television, coffee table or even a window. You may want most of the furniture facing a television, or centered around a coffee table for guests to have conversations. In many cases, what you have in your living room will dictate how you arrange living room furniture.
  3. Use angles for the furniture. Don't get into the habit of facing furniture in one static direction. Using angles can add variety, and allow much easier eye contact for guests and your family to have a conversation. It also makes the space look much better.
  4. Use walls. Obviously, you wouldn't want your couch in the middle of the living room. Use walls when necessary to ensure that the middle area of the living room isn't too crowded.
