Spyware can affect a computer very easily and learning how to avoid spyware will save you a lot of trouble. Some spyware spies on you hence the name spyware. Other spyware will infect your computer much like a virus, hijack your browser and cause a lot of errors, slowdowns, etc.

Learning to avoid spyware is very easy and only takes a few good programs to keep your computer secure and away from prying eyes.

  1. Install and run Spyware software. There is a lot of spyware software on the Internet. Some are free and some are not. The free versions of most anti-spyware software are as good as the paid versions. Some of the most popular software programs are Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Windows Defender, Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware. All of these are free for personal use and are very effective at keeping spyware off of your computer.
  2. After you install the Spyware program of your choice you need to update it. The current program you download may not be up-to-date as new spyware is being created all the time. Check the program settings and see if the spyware program you download has an automatic update option. If it does turn it on. If it doesn’t make sure you always update before you run the scan.
  3. Some anti-spyware programs run automatically at a time set by you. However, some anti-spyware programs have to be run manually. If the spyware program you downloaded runs automatically be sure to go into the settings and set a time that you would like for it to update.
  4. Install a program that stops spyware from coming onto your computer. A very popular program is SpywareBlaster. This program will stop spyware from infecting your computer. It has a paid version and a free version. The only difference between them is the paid version will update automatically and the free does not. You need to update and enable protection on a weekly basis.

It is a good idea to download more than one spyware program.  It would be nice if one program would do it all but that is just not the case. More than likely two is enough but if it would make you feel better then you can download more. All of these programs can be easily found by doing a Google search.
