Figuring out how to be single and happy can be a challenging task. Yet maintaining happiness while being single is certainly achievable, especially with a positive frame of mind and a few simple guidelines. These tips for being single and happy will either help you realize a few things or reinforce what you've known all along.

  1. Stay active in favorite pastimes. Have an affinity for a certain hobby, or a knack for a particular sport? Stay involved in hobbies you enjoy, and work on setting and achieving important goals for yourself. If you're a fitness buff, set your sights on completing a marathon, and enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes from your training and dedication paying off. Or join a bowling club that meets regularly for bowling tournaments and camaraderie. Ensuring that you have activities in your life that are important to you will go a long way toward your ability to be single and happy.
  2. Surround yourself with friends and family. Stay active within your circle of friends and family members, so that you don't feel isolated. In addition to friends and family who are part of a couple, make a point to seek out other single friends and family members, to minimize the chances of the “fifth wheel” feeling. Maintaining close relationships with important friends and family in your life can provide much of the emotional fulfillment that you may feel you're missing from not having a mate.
  3. Accentuate the positive. Focusing on the positive aspects of not having a mate can also help you to be single and happy. As a single man, you have a lot more freedom than you do as half of a couple, in terms of choosing what to do in your free time, deciding which movie to see, picking a vacation destination-the list goes on and on! Relish your time without a mate, because the day may come when you no longer have the freedom that being single offers.
