How To Be A Wide Receiver
Learn how to be a wide receiver so you can truly be an asset to your football team. Wide receivers need to be fast, agile, and smart to play to the best of their abilities. You will need to work on catching passes no matter how difficult the situation is or how heavily marked you are. You need to be tenacious and want the ball more than anything else, and you need to be willing to take a hit to catch it.
- To be a wide receiver you will need to work on your overall fitness and strength. You need to be strong, so you should really focus on weight training for both muscular strength and endurance. The harder you work to increase your body’s strength, the more effective you will be on the field and the more likely you will be able to beat your opponent.
- Work on your speed and agility so that you can outrun and outmaneuver your opponents as a wide receiver. You will need to work on calisthenics to strengthen your legs and prepare them for quick bursts of speed and quick changes in direction. You should also focus on improving your leg strength so that you can overpower the defense when necessary.
- One of the most important factors of being a wide receiver is catching the ball. Practice doing catching drills as often as possible. Start with basic catches that are simple and move on to more complex plays where you are marked by one or more players. Focus on catching and holding on to the ball no matter what. This is more important than being able to outrun or overpower people. Catching the ball is what being a wide receiver is all about, so train hard and put most of your effort into this.
- Good wide receivers play smart and learn to read the people’s movement who are covering them. Learn to juke and throw off your opponent so that you can get yourself open for a pass. The better you are at juking and getting open, the easier it will be to catch passes since opponents wont be able to mark you as closely.
