How To Become A Firefighter In Ohio

If you want learn how to become a firefighter in Ohio, you will have to prepare yourself to perform the duties. Becoming a firefighter in Ohio is not an easy process. You'll have to get training and acquire skills that are needed to save lives and put out fires. This type of work requires advanced emergency medical training in some situations. If you can complete the required training, you can become an Ohio firefighter.

1. Read books and publications about local firefighting and graduate from high school or obtain a GED. Enroll in to a two-year or four-year college degree program and obtain a degree that is closely related to emergency medical training or fire science and visit or call an Ohio fire department to find out what are the requirements for becoming a firefighter in the state Ohio. Set-up an interview by phone or in person with at least three fire chiefs that work in the state of Ohio and ask them for advice on how to become a firefighter in Ohio and follow their advice. 
2. Complete an Ohio firefighter application to help you become a firefighter in the city where you will like to work. Return the application with all the requested documents by the fire department (i.e., driver’s license, birth certificate, social security card, diploma, degree etc.). Upon acceptance, get ready for training and a series of physical and mental tests to become a firefighter in Ohio.
3. Pass all the examinations that are required by the state of Ohio to help you become a firefighter. Expect to take a written exam, a physical exam, and an oral exam and there may be other requirements such as an interview. Complete and pass all the exams and requirements and you are now a firefighter in Ohio.
