Interested in knowing how to become a soccer coach? Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world, and has caught fire in the United States. Soccer coaches command respect around the world, and learning how to become one will earn you that same respect.

  1. Learn to play soccer. Obviously you cannot become a soccer coach if you do not know how to play the sport. Contact your local recreations department to find out how to enroll in a class to learn soccer. It is important to pay special attention to the rules and regulations of the game. Skill will only take you so far once you become a soccer coach.
  2. Volunteer to coach a local soccer team. By coaching a local soccer team you are not only getting the chance to practice the game more, you get to hone your coaching skills. Local teams include neighborhood, church and school soccer teams. Your amateur coaching experience will help you to get certification to become a professional soccer coach.
  3. Contact the National Soccer Coaches Association of America to take the exam to become a soccer coach. Depending on your state and the level of the sport you plan to coach, you will have to take an exam to be certified to coach soccer. You may be required to take a course to qualify to take the exam.

Although the process of becoming a soccer coach may seem arduous, it is rewarding. After your certification, you may be able to become a professional soccer coach with a high school, college or other organization.
