  1. Get the best equipment. A sports photographer will have to capture moving athletes at various angles. You will therefore need a camera with a continuous-focus servomotor to capture the athletes in action without having to refocus. The camera should have a continuous shutter function at 8 frames per second to capture rapid-paced action. A camera with a zoom lens or prime lens that has the largest aperture will put you at a great advantage in your quest to become a sports photographer.
  2. Get experience. To become a sports photographer you should start taking photos as early as high school. You can’t just learn how to become a sports photographer in class, you must take initiative. Build up your portfolio by volunteering to take photos at little league games or school matches. To become a sports photographer you should look at photos from established sports photographers and learn from them.
  3. Sharpen your skills. Choosing the best location and vantage point will be critical to how successful your career as a sports photographer becomes. To become a sports photographer you should specialize in a certain sport so that you can sharpen your skills and become an expert photographer.
