How to Bet on Baseball
Need to learn how to bet on baseball? Betting on baseball is not like betting on any other sport. Baseball is a game of failure. Unlike any other sport, baseball is the only sport where you can succeed three out of every ten times and be considered one of the best. So how do you bet on baseball?
- First and most importantly when betting on baseball you must look at what pitchers are playing. Good pitching will beat good hitting more than good hitting will beat good pitching. After you see which pitcher is playing, look at the offense it is playing against. If you have an ace throwing against a team which is in the bottom tier in run production, then you will want to bet on this game. Games where a top pitcher pitches against a top offense are a little trickier though. It might be a good idea to see how this pitcher has done against this team in the past. Check pitchers' stats on sporting websites.
- The second thing you need to look at when betting on baseball is the teams' offenses. This part is much trickier than looking at the teams pitching. You can't look at an individual player and expect that single player to come through every game like you can in other sports. A hitter only needs to get four hits every three games to be considered good. You need to look at the offense as a whole. Check out run production by the team as a unit. Check runs per game -- a good number is 4.6, but don't go under 4.8, you might be asking what the difference is, but it is a huge difference. The difference is a total of 25 runs through the course of season. That is enough to make a huge difference.
- When betting on baseball, you need to look at the teams' records. If a team is on pace for a 90 loss season, it's pretty obvious you should not bet on them. The only time you should ever bet on a team with a losing record is if they have a Cy Young candidate on their team, although you should be wary of betting a large amount.
- The last thing you need to look at when betting on baseball might be one of the most important. Streakiness. Baseball is a long season. It's actually the longest season of all sports in the United States. In 162 games, things change every week and you need to keep an eye on this. For instance, if a team went on a stretch where they lost 3 straight series, even if they have their ace pitching, don't touch them.
When betting on baseball, there's no such thing as a sure thing, so bet responsibly. No tips are foolproof, but they do help you from betting ignorantly and blindly.
