Learning how to bowl off spin is a simple bowling technique in the sport of Cricket. To bowl off-spin refers to the delivery of the ball or bowling of the ball to a batter. This technique is very common and easy to pick up as a bowler in Cricket.

To bowl off spin, you will need:

  • Cricket field
  • Cricket ball
  • Batter (not necessary to practice)
  1. Off spin bowling is created by the movement of the hand. The overall delivery and follow through wind out the progression of the off spin. Being that the off spin is delivered by the hand, it has taken on the alternate name of finger spin delivery. Think of the off spin as something similar to the curve ball in American baseball.
  2. To deliver an off spin bowl, establish yourself in the pitching position. The wind up is no different than any other delivery. The key points here will be rotation and follow through. Delivery should be over hand with the index and middle fingers on the outside of the ball (portion furthest away from you.
  3. As the delivery occurs, snap the wrist in an inward motion. This will cause an off spin on the ball as you bowl. Be sure to follow through with your arm crossing over your body. The direction of the off spin should be a straight line to begin and then a hard break in to the batter. This break will be either right or left depending on your pitching arm. Of course, this inward break works best for right handed pitchers against left handed batter and vise versa.
