How To Build Soccer Goal Posts

Building soccer goals requires safe and sturdy posts and in this article you’ll learn how to build soccer goal posts. No matter how fun the game of soccer is, just like any other games, accidents causing minor or serious injuries, sometimes even death, are possible to happen and it’s sometimes related to the soccer goal. The risk lies on the weight of the materials used or the kind of materials used and how the soccer goal is set up on the ground.

What you need:

  • 1 piece (24 feet) 4x4 wood for the crossbar

  • 2 pieces (10 feet) 4x4 wood for the front posts

  • L Shaped construction ruler

  • Construction measuring tape

  • Pencil

  • Saw

  • White paint

  • Paint brush

  • Sand paper

  • 3 to 4 inch nails

  • Hammer

  • Wood Glue

  • Mixed cement (optional)

Steps

  1. Lay the wood piece for the cross bar and the two wood pieces for the front posts on a flat ground or surface. Using the pencil and the ruler diagonally measure and mark the ends of the wood pieces where they will be connected later on. They should form an inverted 90 degree on each corner of the soccer goal.

  2. Saw and sand the edges of the connecting corners. Ensure that there are no rough surfaces on the connecting ends otherwise this may affect the measurements.

  3. Apply wood glue and hammer nails to finally connect the front posts to the crossbar. It is best to work on flat ground or surface to ease the process and avoid unequal connection. Apply wood glue to cover nail heads and the connecting line.

  4. Dig two 4x4 holes with 2 feet depth on the ground soil where the post will be built or installed. The distance of the holes should be around 24 feet which is the same width of the crossbar or better yet lay the constructed soccer goal on the ground and to serve as a guide where to dig the holes.

  5. Install the front posts by inserting the bottom ends into the holes. Do a few hammer pounds on the corners of the crossbar to ensure the soccer posts are inserted properly. The height of the soccer goal should be around eight feet.

  6. Check the sturdiness of the goal. If the soil is too soft, widen the hole to pour in mixed cement to harden the foundation.

  7. Sand the goal and paint it with white paint. After the paint is dry, you may now attach the net to finish the soccer goal.

TipsNever use another paint color for the soccer goal. The purpose of white paint is for better visibility to avoid accidents. The net should be removed when the goal is not in use. Screw small hooks around the posts and the crossbar for easier net installation and removal. To make a semi permanent soccer goal, you may need additional materials like another 24 feet 4x2 for the rear ground shoe, two 6 feet metal tube for the ground bar, two 4 feet tube for the back drop and two 8 feet tubes for the back stay. The tubes are connected by elbows and clamps or screws. The goal is then anchored by either stakes, J-hooks, augers or sandbags. Semi permanent soccer goal should be properly stored by removing the anchors to chain and lock them facing each other or be chained and locked in a storage room.
