How To Build A Wooden Fence
Learning how to build a wooden fence at home is not very hard, but it requires a lot of time. You will also need certain materials and an understanding of tool use to take on the project. The following is how to build a wooden fence.
Materials:
- Wooden fence posts
- Long boards (of same length) for horizontal support
- Hammer
- Nails
- Saw
- Post hole digger
- Tape measurer
-
First, buy all of the supplies that you will need from a construction supply or home improvement store.
- Next, decide upon the area where your fence will be set up. Dig holes, spaced according to the length of the long boards, for the fence posts. Space holes so that each long board will mount to three posts: the middle of the left post, the middle post and the middle of the right post. Keep this measurement up, so that the post holes, which should be about two feet deep, are spaced evenly, and the boards may be nailed perfectly to them later. If you want to, cut the posts down to make them shorter.
- Place the posts in the holes, and fill in around them with dirt. Pack the poles in tight, so that they are firmly mounted in the ground.
- Nail the boards to the fence posts. Either make the fence two or three boards tall, and nail them to the poles, starting with the middle post, then another post. The board will run off of both sides of these posts, and then the middle of the next post. Then, nail the next board to the other side, from the middle of the post that the previous board left off at. Keep this up so that the fence has two or three rungs and until it is complete with posts and boards nailed to them.
Learning how to build a wooden fence is fairly simple, but the construction project can take a lot of time. Use precision, and be careful, so you can make a beautiful wooden fence on your property.
