If you're looking to get into better shape, you'll want to learn how to burn more calories. There are many ways to burn more calories in your daily life. Just changing certain habits can make a difference in the number of calories you burn on a daily basis.

  1. Consider alternate ways of getting to work or school. Instead of sitting in traffic in your car, ride your bicycle or walk to where you need to go. If it's too far or not feasible for some other reason to do this, try walking or biking to run your errands instead.
  2. Always take the harder way. When parking your car, park as far as possible from the entrance to wherever you're going. This will enforce a bit of exercise in the way of walking and help you burn more calories. Instead of taking an elevator to a high floor, take the stairs.
  3. Explore active hobbies. It's tempting to spend weekends parked in front of the television or computer with a beer and a bag of chips. But getting out and enjoying some fresh air and exercise will burn more calories and be better for you in the long run. Try hiking, kayaking or playing sports such as tennis or racquetball. Going out to a club and dancing is fun and will also burn calories.
  4. Begin a work-out program. Even if you don't have much extra time in your day, any exercise will help you burn more calories. Twenty minutes on a treadmill or exercise bike isn't much to squeeze into your day, but it will help you burn more calories.

Burning more calories doesn't have to be hard, there are many ways to fit calorie burning into your schedule even if it's already hectic.
