How To Buy A Camping Tent

If you are planning a camping trip this summer you may be wondering how to buy a camping tent. Picking the perfect tent is a very important decision. This single item will be what keeps you warm, dry and comfortable. Here are a few things to think about when you go to buy a camping tent.

  1. Know when you will be camping. If your tent will only be pulled out a couple times during the spring and summer months, a three-season tent is perfect. These tents are lightweight and allow for adequate ventilation inside the tent. They are also reasonably priced. For a serious camper, a more expensive option is a four-season tent. This tent will offer much more protection against the harsh winter elements.
  2. Count up the campers. If you’re planning to take the entire family camping you will need to purchase a cabin or family tent. These tents are large and often very heavy. They work well if you are car-camping or have a relatively short walk to your campsite. Make sure to inspect  the display models when you go to buy a camping tent. Look to see if there is enough room for everyone, even the dog. If you are camping alone or with only one other person, a small two-person tent will be adequate. These are often lighter and can be carried long distances for walk-in camping sites.
  3. Look for a tent that is easy to set up. Some tents can be set up in just a few minutes, while others can take almost an hour. Smaller tents are known to be easier to set up. This does not mean that if you are planning to buy a camping tent that is family sized you are doomed to spending an entire day struggling with your tent. Look on the internet for reviews of easy to set up tents. Campers who are happy with their tents will often talk about set-up time in their reviews.

Tents have come a long way over the years. Today’s tents offer maximum comfort with less bulk. Try to see if the store has a display model of the tent in the store. It is hard to buy a camping tent without being able to get a feel for the size and quality. An outdoor sporting goods store that specializes in camping equipment is the best place to buy a camping tent.
