In addition to being able to buy government bonds through the United States Treasury, you can also buy government bonds through banks, brokers and dealers.
- Treasury Direct. If you would like to buy government bonds through the United States Treasury, you will need to visit the Treasury Direct website and create an account. When you visit the Treasury Direct website, look towards the bottom right of the website and click on "Treasury Direct" under "Open an Account." Follow the prompts on your screen for directions on purchasing government bonds.
- Banks. You can also buy government bonds through banks. Not all banks sell government bonds, so you will need to ask a customer service representative at your bank to see if they sell government bonds. You will typically have to fill out a form to buy a government bond and pay for the bond at the bank.
- Brokers And Dealers. If you are not interested in purchasing government bonds through the United States Treasury or through your bank, you can also buy government bonds through brokers and dealers. Many investment companies sell government bonds, but you will need to call your local investment company to ask them beforehand.
