How To Buy A Tennis Raquet
The decision of how to buy a tennis racquet depends on many different factors. Tennis racquets have evolved over time and now vary by size, shape, and player’s skill set. In order to pick out the correct racquet the player should know a few player specific details.
1. Figure out your current tennis skill level. Most sporting goods stores have racquets for three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. If this is the player’s first time playing then a beginner’s racquet would be required. If they play on a regular basis (weekly) then an intermediate would work. If the player is involved in regular competition, an advanced racquet is necessary.
2. After determining skill level, it’s important to determine what type of swing the player has. Normally the player will either be a power player, a finesse player or a combination of both.
3. For power players, a smaller racquet would be needed. Power players depend on their own strength for most of their shots and therefore wouldn’t need a large or long racquet. Power players are known for hitting the ball hard.
4. For finesse player, a longer racquet is required. Most finesse players will use the “sweet spot” of the racquet for power and require a racquet with a larger head.
5. For combination players, it’s more of a trial and error process. It is up to each player to find a racquet small enough to allow them to control power but not too short where they can also allow the racquet to input some power. It is important the player experiments with several racquets until a happy medium is reached.
6. It’s important the player understands their playing style in order to determine which racquet would be most effective for their specific game. By following these basic guidelines, the player understands the basic concepts essential to purchasing the correct racquet.
