How To Calculate Square Footage
To figure out how to calculate the square footage in a room you must bust out some math skills. Any one doing home repairs like carpet swapping or trying to figure out how much tile or linoleum you need will have to be able to grasp this simple concept if they do not want to get ripped off by a contractor. Those guys charge for labor and material so even if you are not doing it yourself, you should be able to have a rough understanding how much material you are required to purchase to complete the job. While this could be somewhat challenging, especially if you were reared in the public school systems of the United States of America, fret not! It is still an easy task. For one thing, you can use the robot brains of a calculator. And since you are an American, you are never wrong! If the math fails you, sue the calculator company. To calculate the square footage, you will need:
- A calculator
- Measuring tape
- Pen and paper to input your measurements
- The first step. To calculate the square footage of a room, you will need to get your measuring tape out out and note down the length of the room. Note this down on your paper.
- The second step. Now that you know how many feet the length is, it is time figure out the width. Traditionally the length is longer than the width but do not worry about semantics. It really doesn't matter. So go ahead and measure the width of the room. Note this figure down on your paper Einstein.
- Math. Now to calculate the square footage of the room we shall invoke a pagan spell to gain massive power. Actually, this next part is known as math. Simply take the two figures you have recored upon your paper and multiply them. Multiply means you use the 'X' button on your calculator. The number spit out is the answer and the answer equals just how many square feet your room is.
