Also, listen for things such as them mentioning attending gay pride events, hanging out at gay bars, or attending political or charity events that are specific to gay causes—it could be another sign that he is gay.
2. Keep an eye out for certain things. Many gay males wear gay pride jewelry, tattoos and other accessories and items that can help you figure out whether or not someone is gay. A lot of gay individuals wear gay pride gear to allow themselves to become more recognizable in their community. You might also want to think about checking out his car for rainbow or gay pride stickers. 
3. Rely on your instincts. If you are wondering whether or not the man that you work with is gay, but are almost certain that he is not gay, you may be right. Though, if you are sure the man you see at the gym everyday reads as gay, he just might be. Remember not to rely on stereotypes – often times they do not reflect the realities of the gay community. You may see someone who fits the stereotype of a gay man, but they are indeed straight and vice versa. It can be difficult to figure out if someone is gay, sometimes all you need to do is rely on your instincts.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask. If you have followed all the steps but are still unsure of whether or not a man is gay, try asking him politely and discreetly. You may find out that the individual has not yet come out of the closet and avoids the question. If this happens apologize and try to change the subject. Being a straight man you may not be aware of this, but coming out is a personal choice and is a very private matter for some gay people. You should know and try to accept that sometimes you simply will never know if a person is gay.
