For some unknown reason, you have decided to cancel your TiVo account. Maybe it's due to a switch in your cable or satellite provider. Maybe you've overwhelmed it with dozens of 'Real Housewives of Orange County' episodes you never watched. Or, maybe you've decided to give television up all together. Whatever decision, cancelling of your TiVo service can be done in a few steps.
1. Dial TiVo Customer Service. Cancelling TiVo cannot be done online. It needs to be done by contacting the Customer Service department at 1-877-367-8486 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. EST. The automated service will prompt the caller to select option two for billing and account questions, then another option two to cancel service. After that, the caller will be prompted to enter a phone number, which is followed by the pound (#) sign.
2. Speak with a Customer Service agent. The agent will ask for the name that the account is under and the phone number. They will then ask why the account is being canceled. Don't get snooty at this question. The reason for this being done is to determine if the account really should be canceled. It may just be that there's a problem with payment on the account (i.e., credit card expiration) or a technical fault that can be fixed online or with a service call.
3. Determine if the TiVo box needs to be returned. Unless the box is still under the 30-day, money back guarantee, it does not need to be sent back to the company. If it needs to be sent back, the Customer Service representative will provide the necessary steps. Otherwise, the TiVo can be used as needed in the residence.
