Your friend's birthday is coming up and you decide this year you want to throw them a party, but first you have to figure out how to cater a birthday. There are many considerations when you prepare to cater a birthday party. At times it can seem overwhelming and frustrating, but with proper planning and preparations you can get the job done at ease.

To cater a birthday party you will need:

  • organization skills
  • patience
  1. Determine the amount of guest and send out invitations. The size birthday party you're having will determine how much planning and preparation you need to do. You can send out invitations online if you have access to the guess email addresses. The invitation will include all of you general information, such as the date and location. Allow a minimum of two weeks before the party to send out the invitations.
  2. Decide what type of food and set up you will have. Think about what the guest of honor loves to eat. Do they love pizza, barbecue, chicken, or pasta? If it is the warm weather months, you can do a barbecue, or have the party in a park, or a big yard. Maybe you want to have it indoors in someone's house or at restaurant. If you are having only a few guests, you can easy prepare the food yourself. If the guest list is big, you may want to ask other guests to bring different dishes, or use a catering service. Make sure to order your guest of honor favorite type of cake. Don't forget to purchase decorations to go along with your set up.
  3. Decide what type of entertainment you want to have. Consider hiring a local band or a DJ, if your guest of honor loves music. You can have door prizes or raffles, and have your guest answer fun questions about the honoree. Have individual and group games lined up to play, and prizes for the winners.
  4. Plan out the birthday party's sequence of events. Have everything planned out in proper order and allow enough time for everything. Make sure you give the guest enough time to arrive before you start serving the food or playing games. Have enough time for opening gifts and cards. Know when you are going to cut and serve the cake. Pre-planning the order of events will keep everything in order and running smoothly.
