How To Change Desktop Icons
Need to know how to change desktop icons? You don't need to be a computer technician or fancy programmer to change your desktop icons. You could reassign the desktop icon picture from a list already downloaded to your computer or you could buy some new icon pictures from the internet and then use them to reassign the desktop icon. These steps will detail how to change desktop icons using earlier versions of Windows 2000, Windows ME and Windows XP.
- Properties window. First, we will need to open a gray box with the option to go to desktop properties. Right click anywhere on the desktop, then left click on "Properties."
- Display properties window. You should now see a display properties window. There are a series of tabs here, and the tab we are interested in is the "Desktop" tab.
- Desktop tab. In this tab you will see a computer monitor with the current desktop settings, and below it you will see the desktop backgrounds you can choose from. We are looking for the "Customize Desktop" button. Click on this button.
- Display items window. In this window, the upper pane will show the desktop icons along with their current icon pictures. The easiest way to change an icon is to just click on the one you want to change and then click on the "Change Icon" button. This will pull up the available icon pictures you can use. Just select one of the icon pictures and then click on the "Apply" button, and you are done.
Note that in Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will select "Personalize" in the gray box from step one instead of "Properties." Then click on "Change Desktop Icons" in the task line and follow the above steps.
