If you’re tired of looking at the same old iTunes icon, you might be wondering how to change the icon of iTunes. Unfortunately, iTunes 10, does not allow the user to change the icon, but this method will work perfectly with older versions of the software. If you’re ready to liven up and change the icon of iTunes, read on.
To change the icon of iTunes, you will need:
- A new iTunes icon
- iTunes
Steps
- The first step in changing your icon of iTunes is finding another icon to replace the original with. These can be found all over the web by different designers. Some are free, and some are not, but there are definitely loads to choose from. You can even just choose from the list of icons on your computer that you’ll see once it’s time to actually change the icon. Once you’ve found the icon you’d like to use, download it to your computer. It doesn’t really matter where you download it to, but it’s recommended you just place it in your Documents folder so that it’s out of the way and off the desktop.
- Make sure you have an iTunes shortcut on your desktop. Find your iTunes shortcut on the desktop or make one. To make one, simply navigate to the iTunes installation directory and right-click on the iTunes.exe file. Search for “Send to” and click “Desktop.” You now have an iTunes shortcut on your desktop.
- The next step is to change the icon of iTunes. This step isn’t too terribly difficult, and nearly anybody could do this. Right click on the iTunes shortcut and click on “Properties.” You’ll see a Shortcut tab at the top. If it isn’t already selected, select it. Now, you should see a button near the bottom of the window that reads, “Change Icon.” Go ahead, and click this and a new window will appear. You’ll see a list of pre-installed icons that you can use, but if you’ve downloaded a specific icon to use, click “Browse.” Navigate to the folder that contains the icon file you downloaded, and double-click it. You should return to the original window and see your icon in the list. If you’re sure that this is the icon you want, select “OK” and the icon of iTunes will change.
- You might find out you want to change your icon again later. If you find out that this just isn’t the icon for you, you can always change it later by following these steps again.
