Whether you’re getting ready to move or going off to college, it can be useful to know how to change your network on Facebook. Your network, usually a geographic location, high school, or college, connects you with others in the same one. Additionally, it makes you easier to find for potential friends. Use the guide below to change your network and take advantage of its benefits.

What you'll need to change your network:

  • A computer
  • An Internet connection
  • A Facebook account
  1. In the upper right corner of your Facebook page, you’ll see three boxes. From left to right, they read Home, Profile, and Account. In order to change your network or any other settings (including privacy), you’ll want to click on the Account button.
  2. The link will take you to a list page of settings. If you look at the list, you will notice that options for network settings aren’t there. But at the top there are several more tabs to choose from. Facebook’s latest visual update placed the Networks tab second from the left. Click on it to proceed.
  3. After clicking the link, you will see a box with your current network. To the right of it, there is a text box where you can enter the name of the network you want to join. Facebook’s data on cities, towns, and schools is pretty comprehensive, so a drop down list will appear as you type. Simply select the network you want to join out of the list and click “Join Network” below. If you’re trying to join a school network, Facebook may ask for your school e-mail address to prove you’re actually a student there.
  4. There are some additional options in the Networks tab. Facebook gives you the option to be a member of multiple networks at once. Say you’ve just graduated high school and are getting ready to join a college network, but you don’t want to leave the high school one. By simply adding the college network, you will become a member of it and remain in the high school network. If you’ve grown out of your high school network, on the other hand, there is a leave network link on the right side of each network’s box. You can also specify which Facebook network will be your “primary” by clicking on the “make primary” link right above the “leave network” link.
