If your graphics don't work, then you need to know how to check your graphics card. Checking your graphics card is easy and simple, and it does not require any third party software. You do not need an expensive computer repair service to tell you what kind of graphics card you have. You can check your graphics card by following these simple steps.

  1. Windows versus Mac. You typically do not need to check the graphics card on a Mac, because Apple standardizes its graphic cards. Therefore, the easiest way to check the type of graphics card your Mac has is to simply goes to their website and find your model.
  2. Check your graphics card on a Windows computer. The story is a little more complicated for Windows computers. There are multiple manufactures, which means multiple hardware combinations. You can check your graphics card by going to the Device Manager. You can find device management by right clicking "My Computer", going to properties, and clicking Device Management. This is going to vary a little bit with different versions of the Windows operating system.
  3. Once you have device management opens, go to the tab that says Display Adapters. Click the "+" sign to expand the tap. You should be able to see your graphics card right under it.
  4. What if it does not show up under Display Adapters? Then there might be a driver problem. If Windows cannot automatically find the driver, then you might have to do it manually. It is very easy. All you need to do is go to the manufacture’s website, find their download or support section, find the specific model of your graphics card, and download the driver that supports your version of Windows operating system.
