How To Choose A Diamond Engagement Ring

So it is time to choose a diamond engagement ring. Picking the right engagement ring may not be quite as easy as it may sound. They say a diamond is forever, but the right diamond engagement ring is more than just the diamond.

  1. The first things to consider when it is time to choose a diamond engagement ring are the 4 C’s: Clarity, Color, Carat, and Cut. The clarity of the diamond is determined by the amount of flaws or intrusions in the diamond. They can range from flawless to having flaws that are visible to the naked eye. The perfect diamond is absolutely colorless. The more color a diamond has the lesser the value and cost. The carat is the size of the diamond. When choosing a diamond engagement ring, the carat size really doesn’t matter. A smaller diamond of the right cut, of good clarity, and of less color is much more impressive and beautiful than a larger stone of a lesser grade. The cut of the diamond not only contributes to the shape of the stone, but also the number of faucets the stone has.
  2. Know the person that you are choosing the diamond engagement ring for. Obviously you know the person, as you are going to marry them. But do you truly know what they like?  Have you paid attention when they have left subtle hints of their likes and dislikes?
  3. Consider your options. You have three options. You can pick a ring that is already made. You can pick out a diamond and have it placed in an already made setting. Or you can have a ring designed just for your sweetheart.
  4. Consider the cost. They say a diamond should cost 6-months salary. However, the cost of the ring should be what you feel comfortable with and what you can afford. It is the thought behind the ring that matters.

When you choose a diamond engagement ring, use your heart and common sense. A diamond may last forever but the thought and time spent finding the perfect ring for her will be remembered for a lifetime.
