How to choose the right size baseball cleat is a matter of measuring the foot. Measuring baseball cleats works as it would for basketball or tennis shoes. Measuring the right size baseball cleat may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer or by foreign makers. The variance should not be that dramatic but may just be enough to cause discomfort or slippage. It is very important to measure the right size baseball cleat to assist in protecting the foot and guarding against injury. Make sure when measuring for the right size baseball cleat you measure as if you were about to play a game. Sock thickness does have a bearing on the right size baseball cleat for your foot.

What you will need to measure your foot:

  • Baseball sock
  • Baseball stirrups
  • Baseball cleats
  • Sporting goods store or baseball specialty store

How to choose the right size baseball cleat:

  1. Head out to the sporting goods store that sell baseball cleats. Use the foot measurer to measure your foot. If you prefer you can measure your foot at home, here’s how. Tape a piece of paper to the floor (not carpeted). Place your foot on the paper and trace it with a pen. Take a tape measure and measure from the big to the heel. You can also measure the width this way too.
  2. Once you know your size, head over to the baseball cleats. With your baseball sock and stirrup on, try on any flavor of baseball cleat that meets your desire. Try several manufacturers and take note of any variance in feel and size.
  3. Put on both right and left cleat. Walk around a little bit to get a feel for the cleat on your foot. Your toe should leave only about one quarter inch from the end of the baseball cleat. There should be no movement on the heel. The feel should be tight, remember they will break in and loosen up over time. Therefore, it is important that they are snug.
