How To Choose A Running Shoe

If you enjoy a early morning or late evening run, then you should know how to choose a running shoe. Having the right kind of shoe can help your feet feel comfortable and prevent any foot problems from occurring. A common mistake to those who are new to running is to buy a clearance shoe or buy running shoes without understanding what to look for.

Things you'll need to choose a running shoe:

  • Your old shoes
  • Knowledge of what types of running you do
  • Arch type
  • Budget in mind
  1. Keep your old shoes. They will tell a shoe professional what kind of new shoe you need. An expert on running shoes can look at your old shoe and tell you if you need another size or what your arch type is.
  2. What kind of running do you do? Do you run on pavement? Or do you usually run on mountain trails? This information is critical to make sure you choose a running shoe that is a good fit for your specific running terrain.
  3. Have an expert give you a arch test to determine what kind of arch your feet have. This is important too in order to make sure your new running shoe has the correct arch type for your feet.
  4. Know your budget. It does no good to want a $200 pair of running shoes if your budget is only $100. Have a realistic budget in mind before you hit the shoe stores and stick to it. Price out some shoes online if you don't have a good idea of price range.
  5. Pick out running shoes that feel comfortable to you. That is the ultimate test for your feet.

Knowing how to choose a running shoe is not hard to do, as long as you use common sense, see a professional for a proper fit, and pick out shoes that feel good for your feet.
