How To Choose Skateboard Trucks
Whether you are an amateur skateboarder or a professional, you need to know how to choose skateboard trucks that best fit your skateboard. The truck of the skateboard is simply the axle that connects to the bottom of your skateboard. The wheels are placed on the ends of the trucks. They are an essential part of the skateboard so it best that they are customized to fit your needs. Here is how to choose your skateboard trucks.
In order to choose your skateboard trucks, you will need:
- skateboard
- ruler
- Determine the truck height that you desire. Typically trucks come in three different heights (high, medium, low). If you are aiming for more flexibility and ability to ride on varying terrain, a high truck height is best. Choose a low height for more stability and control. If you are unsure of the style you plan on using, it is best to choose a mid height skateboard truck.
- Choose the axle length. The axle length of the skateboard is the total length of the truck. It is best to measure the with of your skateboard deck and make sure that the axle is within a half of an inch of the deck. Make sure that the wheels aren't sticking out from under the board.
- Choose your bushings. Skateboard bushings flex when you move the board. The hardness and softness of bushings can be adjusted to your liking. Harder bushings allow for a stiffer board. Soft bushings make turns faster. You can also choose medium bushings if you want to do a little bit of everything.
