How To Clean Blinds

For those trying to figure out how to clean blinds, it is not a hard task. Different types of blinds use different cleaning agents. Blinds can be wood, metal, or plastic. No matter what type of blinds you have, it is important to keep them clean. Clean blinds will leave your house presentable and neat.

To clean blinds, you will need:

  • water
  • trisodium phosphate
  • dishwashing detergent
  • rubber gloves
  • sponge
  • terry cloth
  • duster
  1. Dust the blinds. Blinds usually seem to get very dusty. No one likes dust. When cleaning blinds, the dust is the easiest dirt to get rid of. You can simply use a wool duster to dust off your blinds. Dusting works on all types of blinds. If you do not have a duster handy, you can also use a vacuum. When dusting your blinds close them and dust one side. You must then turn them over and dust the other side.
  2. Use trisodium phosphate mixture. Sometimes when you go to clean your blinds, you will notice a yellow layer of dirt stuck to the blinds. This is common when blinds are in the kitchen, or when someone smokes. To clean metal or plastic blinds with this problem, simply mix trisodium phosphate with water. This cleaning agent is strong, so you should wear some rubber gloves. Use a cloth to rub the blinds with the mixture. You will then need to wipe them down with plain water to rinse them. If you are cleaning wood blinds, you should rub them down with trisodium phosphate. Use only a little bit a water to keep your blinds from drying out.
  3. Clean blinds with soap and water mixture. If you are trying to clean fabric blinds, you can use a sponge. The sponge should be lightly soapy. To get it lightly soapy, just mix some dish washing liquid and water. Wipe down the blinds with a sponge. You will then need to rub them off with a terry cloth.
  4. Use the tub. For those that are cleaning mini blinds, the tub works great. This technique is used for vinyl or coated metal blinds. You can simply fill the tub with water and a few scoops of powdered detergent. Dip the blinds in the detergent. You can use a sponge for any really stubborn dirt. After you clean blinds to your satisfaction, rinse them thoroughly. You should then use a towel to dry your clean blinds and avoid a mess.
