Owning a boat means having to learn how to clean a boat hull. The hull of your boat is exposed to many harsh elements. These elements include salt water, barnacles and algae. These elements not only make your boat hull dirty, they can actually corrode the surface of your boat. When you keep up with cleaning your boat hull, you are preserving its value and keeping its performance at an optimal level. By following these steps, you can learn how to keep your boat hull clean.

To clean a boat hull, you will need:

  • A hose
  • A bucket
  • Clean water
  • Sponges
  • Hull cleaner
  1. Rinse your boat hull with plenty of clean water. A garden hose works well to clean a boat hull; however, if you are not near a hose, a large bucket filled with clean water will suffice.
  2. Mix your hull cleaner with water as directed by the manufacturer. Make sure that the hull cleaner that you use to clean your boat hull is compatible with the material that your boat is made from.
  3. Thoroughly wet your sponge with your hull cleaner and gently wring out the excess moisture. Do not, however, wring out all the water because the sponge needs to be wet enough to clean off stubborn dirt. In order to clean your boat hull properly, you will need to carefully wash each portion of the hull thoroughly.
  4. After cleaning the boat hull, rinse off all traces of hull cleaner. It is important to remove all the cleaner after you clean your boat's hull so that your boat does not become dull looking and laden with streaks.
  5. Clean your boat frequently so that the next time you decide to clean the hull, it will not be so hard to do. When you neglect the cleaning of your boat hull, grit and dirt builds up, making it difficult to clean.
